Curtin University celebrated 50 Years of Innovation at the Residence of the Australian High Commissioner on 2 October. That's 50 years since the first students commenced at our predecessor institution, the Western Australian Institute of Technology (WAIT), back in 1967. A delegation of senior Curtin staff, including Mr Colin Beckett, Chancellor and Professor John Cordery, Provost and Acting Vice-Chancellor were in Singapore for the celebration. It was a great opportunity for graduates from all fields of study and sharing some of Curtin's recent news and developments. There were good Australian wines and nice tasting finger food for all. The turn-out was encouraging.

The academic partner of GloApp Human Capital, Curtin University has been ranked 23rd in the QS World University Rankings Top 50 under 50, a rise of 17 places since 2014.

Now in its seventh year, the QS listing ranks universities established since 1966 according to their position in the QS World University Rankings 2015/16.

Curtin Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry said the rise in the QS Top 50 under 50 rankings was largely attributed to the University’s enhanced research, engagement and education performance and reinforces its strong reputation nationally and internationally.

“Curtin is currently ranked in the top two per cent of universities worldwide in the Academic Ranking of World Universities 2015 and has received a five star overall excellence rating in the QS Stars University Ratings 2015,” Professor Terry said.

“In September this year Curtin significantly increased its position from the 301-400 band to the 201-300 band in the highly regarded Academic Ranking of World Universities, placing the University at number 11 in Australia.”

Professor Terry said Curtin was a very popular destination for students and had strong connections with industry, as well as high-impact and innovative courses.

“It also has the fourth largest international student population of any Australian university with over fifteen thousand students from more than 100 different countries,” Professor Terry said.

“We are very proud of all our staff and students who continue to work together to enhance our mission to change minds, lives and the world through leadership, innovation and excellence in teaching and research.”
